Empty Box Program

We Keep Boxes in Use Far longer than the average Corrugated Box Leading to Significant Cost Savings.

When you have packages shipped, one thing that most people overlook is the box. Unfortunately, no one thinks about the boxes until everything is unpacked, and you are left with piles and piles of boxes that will wind up in a landfill somewhere.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the latest numbers from 2018 show that paper and paperboard materials, including cardboard boxes, made up the largest percentage of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The total generation of paper and paperboard MSW was 67.4 million tons, making up 23.1% of municipal waste.

In 2018, landfills received 17.2 million tons of paper and paperboard waste, which accounted for 11.8% of all landfill waste.

THe Good News...

Of all types of paper-based material, the item with the highest percentage of recycling is corrugated boxes.
Corrugated boxes had an incredible recycling rate of 96.5%! However, good news always comes with a warning.

These numbers from the EPA are pre-pandemic and do not account for the recent significant rise in people working and shopping from home. While the numbers for 2020 and 2021 are not out, the significant rise in e-commerce will hurt nationwide recycling efforts.

According to a 2020 State of Curbside Recycling Report by The Recycling Partnership, only about half of all Americans have automatic access to curbside recycling. Many who do, do not actively participate in the programs. Many communities are increasingly spending more to send materials to a Material Recycling Facility (MRF) rather than send waste to a landfill. Still, these programs are underfunded and struggling to keep up with the waste they have.

Ultimate Logistics Does Our Part in Keeping Cardboard Boxes out of THE landfills.

The Ultimate Logistics Empty Box Program keeps boxes in use well beyond the average lifespan for a corrugated box. So many boxes are one-time use. Perfect and functional boxes are recycled prematurely, leading to increased costs of sending materials to the MRF or to the landfill, which adds to the growing problem of municipal waste.

In most cases, our Empty Box Program will reuse boxes four times over! After our clients unload and unpack their shipments, boxes are folded and retained. Then, we pick up the boxes, and repurpose them for your next shipment.

Going Green Comes with Incredible Cost Savings!

From the standpoint of your bottom line, the Ultimate Logistics Empty Box Program will reduce the amount you spend on boxes by up to 75%! You pay for a box, and we will reuse it up to four times! That’s real money being saved!

Recycling Facts
(Thanks again to The Recycling Partnership)

go-green.jpg

If the United States put all of the 37.4 million tons of residential (single-family) recyclables back to productive use, it would be the equivalent of:

  • Reducing United States greenhouse gas emissions by 96 million metric tons.

  • Conserving annual energy equivalent to 154 million barrels of oil.

  • Providing for 370,000 Full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs.

  • Taking 20 million cars off of U.S. Highways.

Corrugated boxes are just one small piece of the recycling puzzle. The 96.5% rate of boxes recycled is one of the highlights of an otherwise highly cautionary report.

With the rise of e-commerce, which COVID intensified, we cannot rest on the 96.5% success rate from 2018. Instead, we must continue to push forward.
